The basic chemicals business unit (BAC) of specialty chemicals company Lanxess has announced plans to increase its prices for its entire product portfolio by a minimum of seven per cent with immediate effect. The primary factors behind this measure are higher raw material and energy expenses.
BAC is a leading manufacturer of industrial chemicals. The main product groups comprise chlorobenzenes, chlorotoluenes and cresols, nitrotoluenes, polyols and oxidation products (e.g. trimethylolpropane, 1,6-hexanediol, maleic anhydride), benzyl products (e.g. benzylchloride, benzylalcohol, benzoylchloride) and inorganic acids (e.g. hydrofluoric acid).
The basic chemicals business unit is part of Lanxess's advanced intermediates segment, which posted sales of EUR 1,310 million in 2008.
Lanxess is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 6.58 billion in 2008. The core business of the company is development, manufacturing and marketing of plastics, rubber, intermediates and specialty chemicals.
